Dear ABC,
I hope this letter finds you in the best of spirits. This year we had a great time celebrating Diwali in the holy city of Varanasi. Today, I am writing to you share my experience there.
We went out in the Shivala ghat for enjoying the evening Mela. The festival of Diwali is celebrated with a lot of joy and happiness there. The whole ghat was teaming with people on the special day. While some people were out for a ride in the river while some were busy lighting diya near the river.
The whole steps from the main road on top of the ghat to down below were artistically decorated with colourful flowers. All the nearby houses and buildings were decorated with bright lights. Various patterns were created using skillful artwork including a beautiful peacock and the mighty Mahadev. The whole craftsmanship was a pure delight to say the least.
The effects of the surrounding became even more prominent at night The sound of bells and shanks from the ghat was reverberating in the atmosphere. The mere presence in the place was uplifting for the spirit. Big plastic bag balloons were blown with hot air from fire beneath. There were odd firecrackers to electrify the atmosphere. All of these created a spectacular sight which can also be seen to be experienced.
The whole mela was well organized. There was proper provision for paid toilet and changing room. Police was also provided for controlling the crowd in case of untoward incidents. We even spotted a few foreign tourists travelling in the boat and looking at the amazing site in awe. It was really a blissful experience this Diwali which I can never forget.
I hope to meet you soon.
Your friend,
Ambika
