A big part of the reason for the success of Indian civilization has been the knowledge and use of traditional medicine practice by local populace. Since thousands of years, local practitioners, especially in rural areas, have been utilizing and benefiting from indigenous medicinal plants against diseases such as jaundice, diarrhea dysentery skin infections etc.

However, slowly but steadily, there has been a gradual rise of urbanization and its impact has been felt in the use of traditional medicine practice. Due to man activities like construction of roads, deforestation etc, there has been significant loss of habitat for these medicinal plants.

This Knowledge of traditional medicine has been acquired after thousands of years of practice and perfection. We cannot afford to lose this treasure bestowed upon us by our ancestors. So, proper effort must be made to conserve the habitat of this medical plants by controlling soil erosion, deforestation etc. for the benefit of mankind.
