Sir/Madam,

I, [Your Name], am a resident of XYZ locality. I would like to draw the attention of the general public through the columns of your reputed newspaper regarding the importance of World Cancer Day.

Every year, 4th of February is celebrated as the World Cancer Day throughout the world. The primary goal of the observation of this day is to create awareness about cancer as much as possible and try to prevent, detect and treat the disease at an early stage. The World Cancer Summit of 2000 which was held in Paris, France saw the establishment of 4th of February as the World Cancer Day.

Cancer is a deadly non-communicable disease roughly accounting for 9.6 million deaths each year which is more than the combined death count of AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. The tentacles of this disease has spread to almost all the countries and it is estimated by experts that a staggering 13 million fatality cases will be recorded by 2030. Hence, it is imperative to spread awareness about the disease as much as possible in order to prevent his scenario from manifesting itself.

World Cancer Day is observed with a particular theme. For the period 2019-2021, the theme selected for the event is “I Am and I will”. The theme tries to reinstate the fact that the pessimistic view of nothing can be done against cancer has to go. It further tries to instill the belief that our personal action is powerful and helps to defeat the disease.

If we want to eliminate Cancer, there must be contribution from everyone to support those who are affected. The contribution, no matter how small or big, has to be prolonged and continuous. For example on World Cancer Day, there was a innovative global campaign “No Hair Selfie” in which people shaved off their head, either physically or virtually, in order to raise awareness and be a symbol of hope and strength to affected patients. Moreover, negative or indifferent attitude towards affected patients must be minimized and discouraged whenever possible. Such contributions can go a long way in getting positive results.

I hope my letter finds a place in one of the columns of your newspaper. This is the least that I could do for creating awareness about the importance of World Cancer Day.

                                                                                                Yours Sincerely,

                                                                                                Your Name
