Dear ABC,

Thanks for your kind letter. As you rightly pointed out, there can be nothing more satisfying than a well deserved trip to a historical place. It was engrossing to hear about your trip to the Konark Temple, Odisha. I also had the good fortune to visit Shore Temple, Mahabalipuram last week. So today, you be the good listener while I move ahead with the letter about my trip.

The Shore temple is a great example of the architectural prowess of the Pallava Dynasty. Built in the 8th century between 700 and 728 AD by Narasimhavarman II, it is situated along the shore of Bay of Bengal in Mahabaripuram district of Tami Nadu. The temple is so named because of its picturesque location overlooking the ocean. The Shore temple has been recognized as a UNISCO World Heritage site since 1984. It is one of the main attractions for tourists in Mahabalipuram.

It is hard to believe that at the time of construction of the Shore temple, the small town of Mahaballipuram was a busy and bustling port city. The temple itself is made of mostly granite and contains a number of shrines and sculptures of God and Goddesses. There are three prominent shrines, two devoted to Shiva and one to Vishnu. The sculptures of Nandi, the bull and the lion carvings really stood out for me.

The scenic setting of the temple along the Mahabalipuram beach with the blue ocean behind is a sight to behold. The calm and soothing breeze from the ocean is very refreshing and provides a very peaceful environment to cherish. Playing children and exploring tourist along the moon-glow gold beach added to the vibrancy of the place.  I would suggest visiting the place either during morning or evening to thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere.

After spending two and half hours, it was time to leave the Shore Temple at around 9 am. It was truly a delightful morning spent which left me rejuvenated and satisfied. If I ever get a chance again, I would definitely want to visit the million dollar temple once again.

                                                                                                Yours Truly,
