Dear ABC,
I hope you are keeping a good health. Recently, I got the opportunity to travel to Dhaka from Kolkata and I wanted to share with you the details of my the train journey with you. On 1st April 2023, I boarded the Maitree Express at 7:10 am from Chitpur station in Kolkata. The train journey covered an approximate distance of 393 km and lasted for about 9 hours.
For breakfast, I had a delicious veg sandwich and chicken burger along with a badam milkshake and black tea. The AC coach was comfortable with 3/2 sitting arrangements. The train left on time and reached Gede railway station at 9:15 am after traveling 115 km. We then crossed the border into Bangladesh, and there was a 20-minute halt at Darsana railway station for locomotive and staff changes. There was thorough checking of documents and luggages in both the sides of the border by BSF and Bangladesh police force respectively.
The railway staff from Bangladesh took lunch orders, and I ordered chicken curry, steamed rice, and biryani. We were required to fill out a form with our personal details and stay in Bangladesh. Additionally, we needed to provide documents such as a passport, visa, and covid vaccination certificate. I had converted 40,000 rupees into approximately 48,000 taka and received a bill for the currency exchange. Finally, we reached Dhaka station at 4 pm, and there was a long queue for checking customs and immigration.
The train journey from Kolkata to Dhaka is a scenic and comfortable ride along with good food. The train passes through lush green fields, small villages, and busy cities, providing a glimpse of the diverse landscape and culture of the region. It was a fascinating and enjoyable journey. The border crossing experience was interesting and hassle-free. I hope to explore more of Bangladesh and share my experiences with you.
