Subject: Need for sustainable resorts
Sir/Madam,
There is an increasing demand for people in the city to look for eco friendly outings for relaxing and resting. This has resulted in the mushrooming of resorts in and around forest areas. Often, it is seen that forest trees are destroyed to build such resorts which is harmful to the environment.
The development of sustainable resorts is the solution for tackling such problems. My recent visit to the Bhojde village in Gir Somnath district provided me an opportunity to experience my first stay in a sustainable resort, namely Aranya resort. I was amazed to know that not a single tree was cut for the construction of the resort. The resort was constructed using Eco friendly architecture .
The traditional cottages were made using local natural resources. Galvanized steel frames were used instead of wooden frames in order to save trees. To make the cottages cooler, clay tiles were placed on the roof. The stone walls did not have cement coating in order to preserve the distinct rustic look.
Proper attention was given for recycling spent water in the resort so that they could be reused in the field for growing vegetables. They provided their food for the guests from the well maintained organic farms. The food tasted so good that guests from other resorts also visited there to enjoy delicious meal.
I believe more such resorts can go a long way in promoting tourism as well as sustain the environment of the place.
