Dear ABC,

At last, the wait for the final of IPL 2022 was over and I got a chance to watch it in my hometown, Ahmedabad yesterday. We had bought the tickets for our family and a few friends well in advance. The match was to be played between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals in the Narendra Modi stadium, which is the largest stadium in the world. In order to avoid any delay, we reached the stadium by 5 pm for the match with 8 pm start!

The closing ceremony of the 15th edition of IPL was a gala affair with an energetic performance by AR Rahman, Ranveer Singh and all the support artists. The whole stadium with the attendence of more than 1 lakh people was singing Jai Ho! It was an electrifying atmosphere and one had to be present there to feel the energy which was hitting through the roof.

Rajasthan Royal won the toss and decided to bat first in the high pressure match. Things didn’t go as the RR camp would have wanted as they could score only 130/9 in the first innings. The orange cap holder and star batman, Josh Butler was the highest scorer with a 35 ball 39. Most of the bowlers of Gujarat Titans chipped in with good contribution with Hardik Pandya being the best of the lost, picking up 3 crucial wickets.

It was not a big total by any stretch of imagination but the pressure of runs being on the board in a high octane final was there. Gujarat Titans got a lucky break as Shubman Gill was dropped early by Yuzvendra Chahal. It proved to be a big blow as Shubman played a brilliant innings of 45 runs not out and guided the debut side to their 1st IPL win. Hardik Pandya and David Miller also played valuable innings of 34 and 32 respectively.

Hardik Pandya was undoubtedly the key player of the match with a brilliant all round performance. It was his Kapil Dev moment and he aptly won the Most Valuable Asset of the Match. It was a herculean effort on Hardik’s part as he was struggling with form and fitness before the start of the tournament. All in all, it was a great experience for me to be able to watch the final match in the stadium yesterday. I can still feel the excitement and energy of the thoroughly memorable experience.

I hope to meet you soon.

Regards,
