Sir/Madam,
Poverty has been a big problem for India since independence. However, a recent World Bank report on extreme poverty has pointed out that it has halved from 22.5% to 10%, between 2011 and 2019 in India. The rate of poverty decline between 2015 to 2019 has been faster compared to 2011 to 2015.A lot of credit must be given to a number of government schemes such as Ujwala yojana, PM aawas yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, Jan Dhan yojana , Mission Indradhanush etc.
A lot of emphasis on the pro poor public welfare has been a deciding factor for the improvement. The government has made sure that no one was left out from the benefit of the government schemes. Special focus was also given to last mile connectivity so that funds to people whom it was meant for. Digital India campaign played a big part in it and has helped a lot in reducing corruption.
Infrastructure development in villages such as pucca roads and drains by Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojana has helped mobility and interaction among various communities. All these efforts have led to an increase in the ease of living of deprived households. We are not out of the woods yet as tough times lie ahead due to Covid and war like situations.
Being a responsible citizen, I draw the attention of the public to this important achievement of the government. I hope the good work continues and the reduction in extreme poverty further decreases.
