Subject: Problem of teenage obesity
Sir/Madam,
Through the columns of your news paper, I want to highlight the issue of obesity epidemic among teens. Weight gain among teenagers is a normal phenomenon of growing up. But if the growth gets out of control, it creates a problem of obesity.
Modern lifestyle promotes increasing junk food consumption. The high calorie, low nutrient food results in weight gain. Lack of physical activity, watching television shows and surfing mobile phone has also contributed to the menace. Genetics also plays a part as some people tend to digest better than others. Moreover, stress also causes over eating which results in excess energy getting stored as fat in the body.
A number of health issues are also witnessed along with obesity such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, hormonal imbalance, sleeping disorder and asthma. Teenage obesity can lead to low self esteem. The situation can be difficult to handle as obese individuals are taunted by peers.
Hence, it becomes imperative to control obesity among teens. Regular physical exercise, jogging swimming and playing outdoor games can help a lot in controlling obesity. A balanced diet of green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and whole legumes provide the right nutrients required by our body. Young boys and girls must also make it a habit to avoid junk food. Parents must themselves set example my following a healthy lifestyle to tackle the issue.
Yours Faithfully,
Anand
