Write a letter to a friend about a popular Panchatantra story: The Monkey and the Crocodile

Storytelling is a fun and interactive way to learn new things in life. Lessons learnt in early life are always remembered for a long time. The tales of the Panchatantra are also the same. They teach us great lessons but in a very entertaining way with the involvement of a number of wild animals and birds. It can be really fun to share and recollect the old Panchtantra tales with friends through letters. This is a simple letter to a friend about a popular Panchatantra story: The Monkey and the Crocodile. The letter can be modified according to need and preference.

Dear ABC,

How are you doing my friend? What are you up to these days? It was heartening to get your letter day before yesterday. I was really nostalgic reading your recount of the memorable Panchatantra stories. Continuing the trend today, let me also share a popular Panchatantra story: Monkey and the Crocodile.

Many moons ago, there lived a monkey on a tall Berry tree near the bank of a river in a forest. In the river, there lived a young crocodile couple. One day, while the male crocodile was resting under the Berry tree, the kind hearted monkey noticed him and threw down some berries for the crocodile. The crocodile liked the fruit and kept coming back on successive days for more berries. Thus, the monkey and the crocodile became good friends.

One day, the monkey sent some fruits for the crocodile’s wife. The wife enjoyed the fruits but she also did not like the fact that her husband was spending so much time with the crocodile. Hence, the jealous wife wondered that if the berries were so sweet and juicy, then how sweet the heart of the monkey would be. She demanded the heart of the monkey from the crocodile. Unable to resist his wife, the crocodile proceeded to do the task as instructed.

Next day, the crocodile invited the monkey to his home for dinner. The unsuspecting monkey was happy and accepted the invitation. Since the monkey could not swim, the crocodile took the monkey on his back. He was happy that he had tricked the monkey. When he reached the middle of the river, in his excitement, he let the cat out of the bag by divulging his plan.

Now, the monkey was in a fix and needed to think of a quick plan to get out of trouble. The quick witted monkey said that he had left his heart back at the Berry tree and would require to go back to get his heart. The crocodile fell for the plan of the monkey and took him back to the tree. As soon as the crocodile neared the river bank, the monkey jumped on the bank and on the top of the tree. Thus, the clever monkey saved his life.

Moral of the story: We have to be selective while choosing our friends and always have presence of mind.

I hope you like and remember the story! I had a great time jogging down the memory line.  I hope you keep writing and share another story another day. Waiting for your reply,

                                                                                               Yours lovingly,
