We booked a trip of 3 days to the National Park through travel agency.
We visited the park from November 24th to 26th. Situated in the foothill of the Himalayas, Corbett National Park is the oldest National Park in India. It is also the first national Park to come under project tiger initiative. It is named after the famous Hunter, author and naturalist, Jim Corbett

We landed at Patnagar airport in the morning of 24th November and took a taxi to reach our destination resort which would be our home for the next three days. We took some rest at the resort, had lunch and decided to visit the Dhangarhi museum. The museum is a treasure trove on the life and journey of Jim Corbett. We had a great time going through the rich collection of books, memoirs and local artworks. Visit to the museum enhanced our knowledge of the place and the National Park. We returned back to the resort in late evening where we were treated to the delightful recreational facilities. We had dinner at night and slept overnight in the wildlife resort.

Next day on 25th November, we were up early in the morning and got ready for the morning Jeep Safari. The park is generally open from 5:30 am to 10 am and again from 2 pm to 6 pm. Morning is the best time to get a glimpse of the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. We took our coffee and set off for the adventure. It was a bit chilly and we opted for some warm clothes.  We intentionally refrained from wearing bright clothes so as to avoid attracting unwanted attention from the wildlife. The forest was teaming with activities and the pristine atmosphere just took our breath away. We managed to view a variety of birds and a number of animals like Sambar, Nilgai, Wild boar, hedge hog and even flying fox. But alas, we could not spot the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger.

On returning back, we had our breakfast and took some rest. Later in the afternoon, we went to the nearby Kosi river which was a half day trip. We spent much of the time on the river bank admiring the beauty of the place and the majestic sunset. Back at the resort, we were pleasantly surprised when we were treated to a delicious local cuisine, Ras. It is prepared using a variety of dal and has become quite a favorite for me.

Next day on 26th, we again got up early and this time it was the turn of the Elephant safari. It was an exhilarating experience and quiet different from the jeep Safari. We were able to explore the habitat quite closely on the back of the elephant guided by a trained mahout and went to places not been before yet. The picturesque view of the different landscapes of the park was in sharp contrast to the hustle bustle of the city life that we have grown so much used to.

In the afternoon, we reluctantly took a taxi and left for Patnagar airport. My first vacation at Jim Corbett National Park turned out to be much more enjoyable than I initially expected. I look forward to coming back here sometime again! I would love to hear from here too. Take care!
