Dear ABC,

Your letter is just to my hand. It was really fun to go through it reading your unique take on the last novel that you read. What else can you do now? Right! After all, you have got another week or so to recover from your leg injury. Jokes apart, we seriously missed you in our last picnic trip. We had a lot of fun and let me make you relive our picnic day through this letter.

We decided to visit Parshuram Kund, a sacred pilgrimage site situated within the Kamlang Forest Reserve area on the bank of Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh. It is a big tourist attraction with mesmerizing scenic beauty and is roughly 200 km from Dibrugarh Town. A total of 40 students were a part of the picnic outing and we started from our College campus five in the morning last Sunday.

The journey itself to the picnic spot was a tad longish but was eventful nonetheless as we had some great company. There was singing, friendly banter and constant chitchat all long the joyride. We took a few breaks during the journey in order to recharge our batteries, have some roadside tea snacks and soak in the lovely green scenery along the way. One particular instance that stood out for me was the view of the orange trees at Wakro, which is famous for oranges. We managed to sneak in some of the oranges too!

At around 9:30 am, we reached Parsuram Kund. Our picnic spot was an open field which was at a higher altitude than the river flowing below with crystal clear bue water. There was this majestic view of the mountains around us with the river meandering along the foot of the mountains. One had to climb down to get to the flowing river with the river bank full of stones and pebbles of various shape and size.

The first thing that hit me was the soothing but quite strong breeze with hairs and even unbuttoned jackets flying everywhere. We put our tent in the middle of the field though some other groups went further down, near the river bank. We had our breakfast which consisted of bread, butter, jam, banana, biscuits, boiled eggs and oranges of course! We set about preparing for our lunch with all assigned persons donning their duty. The menu was simple with rice, chicken curry, mixed vegetable item, dal and fresh salad.

Next, we head out for some site seeing. A distinctive feature of the place is a chain of hundreds of stairs, a tad steep and long, up and down, that takes the visiting people through the forest trees and to the river bed and onto the final holy spot. We took our blessings from the temple at the entrance and marched forward. All the smartphones came out to capture the moments as we marveled at the natural beauty.

After quite a trekking, there at last stood the kund in the river in all its glory. The sight of the kund is breathtaking enough to make you forget the hardships of the journey. Legend has it that Parshuram, the 6th avatar of Vishnu, after travelling to various places could only get rid of the sin of matricide after taking a dip in the river. Hence, people flock here to take a holy dip to get rid of their sin. It is also said that the kund was in its original form until the great earthquake of 1950 that shook the entire North-East India and the kund got completely covered. The present kund have been formed by the work of the river at the same site by moving large boulders.

After taking a bath, when we were about to return to our tent then only it hit us we had to go back by climbing those stairs again! We braved though to reach our spot, had our lunch which was quite delightful on a hungry stomach. After some more sightseeing, it was time to pack up and head back home. We started at about 2:30 pm and reached Dibrugarh by 7:00 pm.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience that shall last a life time. Give my respect to your parents. Here’s hoping a quick recovery to you so that you can tag along with us on our next trip. Until then, get another novel to submerge in.

                                                                        Yours faithfully,
