Drug abuse is a major social evil of our present generation. The youth has been mostly affected by it which is evident by the increasing no of cases among them. Drug abuse has played an important role in deterioration of quality of human resource of the country.
Colleges and schools are often the hub of these activities. Students can be often seen in possession of common drugs like Cocaine, heroin, opium, marijuana etc. Peer pressure is a big reason for the youth to fall trap to drug abuse. It is deemed fashionable to do drugs in the liberal modern society.
The profit from the business of drugs ultimately goes to the criminal gangs and underworld mafia. In order to keep a track on the drug criminals, police and intelligence agency has to send a lot of public money which is a burden to the nation. This public money could have been used for the development of the nation otherwise.
Strict actions have to be taken to weaken the hold of drugs on society. The children need to be educated early at home and in schools about this menace. They have to be made aware of the ill effect of the drugs so that they consciously stay away from them. Youth have to be trained to be disciplined to avoid temptation and make right choices. The guardian at home and teachers in school have a big responsibility for a strong foundation of moral character.
