Dear ABC,

I hope my letter finds you in the best of health. It was nice to hear about your excursion to Tamil Nadu in your last letter. We also had a small family picnic to Dibru Saikhowa National Park last week. I am writing this letter to share with you about my experience there.

Dibru Saikhowa is a wonderful place to enjoy picnic in the bank of the mighty Brahmaputra River. We had booked a room in a local river boat for two days. The manager, Mr Das at the river boat took good care of us and even arranged for a resident tourist guide. The guide was knowledgeable as well as had a great sense of humor.

Dibru Saikhowa is a bird watcher’s delight. My father being a bird watcher himself had a great time exploring the diversity of birds at Maguri Beel, a big wetland area nearby. I personally found the early morning boat ride a unique experience. It was a joy to cruise through the water hyacinth and water lilies in the river and see the local fishermen catch fish and shrimps.

The best moment of the picnic for me was the sighting of river dolphins. We could spot river dolphins about 4 km from Guijan ghat in the north-west direction. Such was the impact of the sight that we stopped our boat and soaked in the magic of the view. My little brother, who has a fascination for photography, even clicked a few pictures.

We also had the good fortune of visiting a nearby Missing tribal village. We got to experience their traditional way of life. The local people depend on milk production, fishing and weaving as a means of livelihood. We were treated to a local delicacy of freshwater river fish, Bariali fry.

Dibru Saikhowa is surrounded by tea garden on one side and Brahmaputra on the other. It was refreshing to spend some time through the lanes of the tea garden. Another attraction near the park was an island entirely occupied by an enormous tree with huge network of branches. It was quite an experience to camp under this tree with our big sized umbrella for shade.

I can’t wait to return here for another trip, hopefully along with you. Do reply and be in touch.
