Dear Sir,

                                              Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to both Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech for their success in the development of safe and effective vaccines against the Corona virus. The New Year brought along with it the much awaited good news when on 3^rd January, 2021, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) granted emergency approval to the two Covid-19 vaccines, one each of SII and Bharat Biotech. As rightly pointed out by honorable PM Shri Narendra Modi, this development has been a decisive turning point in the fight against the dreaded virus.    

                                              At a time when the world has been suffering from the Corona virus pandemic since the last year, it a matter of great joy and pride for us that India has stood up and risen to the occasion to make an invaluable contribution in the fight against the global pandemic. It is even more significant that the two vaccines are “Made in India”. SII is the manufacturing and clinical trial partner of the Oxford University-AstraZeneca backed vaccine under the brand name “Covishield” while Bharat Biotech, in association with ICMR, has developed the first indigenous Corona vaccine:”Covaxin”.                                 

                                                It is the right time to truly acknowledge and appreciate the contribution of the scientific fraternity for their unwavering and thoroughly dedicated effort, especially in these troubled times. It is inspirational and will go a long way in uplifting India’s stature in the global platform as well as breeding pride in the creative minds of the younger generation of the nation. We shall really be grateful to all the unsung heroes for making the world a better place and saving many precious lives.
