during the times of Covid 19
Dear ABC,
It
was wonderful to go through your last letter. I am glad and relieved to know
that you are doing well during these trying times. Anyways, thanks for your
concern for our wellbeing. I am writing this letter to throw some light on life
during the times of Covid 19.
It is the first
real global pandemic and the biggest public health crisis of our generation. It
is one of those times which are filled with uncertainties and that in turn are
fuelling public fear and anxiety. The country has been in a state of lockdown
of some form since 24 March 2020. Currently, we are in lockdown 4.0 which is
going to last till 31st May 2020.
Initially
when the lockdown was announced, there was a feeling of jubilance amidst uncertainty
and fear as one would get a break from the energy sapping routine mundane life.
But as days passed, the seriousness of the reality began to hit. We are confronting
an invisible enemy which has no long term cure till now and all possible
measures are needed to be taken so as to buy some time to search for a vaccine
that works. Though the virus is not as lethal, but it is very dangerous due to
its capacity to spread from even asymptomatic carriers. Hence, the authority’s decision
to impose a lockdown in order to break the chain is a strategy that is quite
rational.
The
pandemic has also brought into the forefront various pressing issues such as the
migrant crisis, job layouts and domestic violence which requires serious
attention. In a way, we are much better placed than many for which we are
grateful. There were many things which we used to think we cannot live without
in the pre-covid 19 world. But with the passing of each day, it is becoming clearer
that we don’t need expensive restaurant dinners, daily mall trips and routine
vacations to survive. It is the smaller things like staying connected with
family and friends, creating bonds and memories that are the ultimate survival
tools. These will the things which will stick with us when we get old and reflect
back.
Yours faithfully
