Dear ABC,

I hope you are in the best of health. I'm excited to share with you the wonderful festival that we celebrate in West Bengal and which I enjoy the most - Durga Puja. This grand festival is a celebration of the goddess Durga's triumph over evil and is deeply embedded in our culture.

The festivities begin with Mahalaya, marking the invocation of the goddess, which is followed by a week-long extravaganza. Sashti, Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami are the main days of worship, with beautifully adorned pandals housing artistic depictions of the goddess and her family. The entire city of Kolkata comes alive with lights, colors, and a contagious enthusiasm.

Each day is marked by rituals, music, dance, and delicious traditional Bengali cuisine. The sounds of dhak  and the sight of devotees dressed in traditional attire add to the festive atmosphere. On Ashtami, young girls are worshipped as embodiments of the goddess in a custom called 'Kumari Puja'.

The culmination of the festival arrives on Dashami, when idols are immersed in water bodies, bidding farewell to the goddess with a heavy heart. The streets are filled with processions and cultural performances.

Durga Puja is more than a religious event; it's a cultural phenomenon that brings the community together. The spirit of unity, creativity, and joy during these days is truly mesmerizing. I wish you could experience the magnificence of Durga Puja someday. Please share your favorite festival from your region as well.

Looking forward to your next letter.

Warm regards,
